ASIPP Sends Letter to United Healthcare on Latest Policy on Epidural Steroid Injections for Spinal Pain

ASIPP has been working since the beginning of 2021 to improve United HealthCare’s policy on epidural steroid injections for spinal pain. While they have made some positive revisions, some issues still remain, and we have new concerns with their revised policy. The correspondence can been seen below:

United Healthcare Epidural Policy Changes

United Healthcare recently made a policy change allowing for only a maximum of 3 procedures per year, per region. ASIPP has contacted them on January 29, 2021 notifying them that the policy was not based on appropriate medical policy nor did it follow evidence-based medicine. See supporting evidence. We requested the policy be reevaluated and changed to the nation-wide standard. On April 29 we finally received a response.  See United Healthcare April 29 response.

While they have retracted multiple policies, with final policies to go into effect on  May 1, 2021 and June 1, 2021, these new policies still have multiple deficiencies and we are once again requesting them to look into these issues. We will keep you updated on the situation.
